In 2013 women, on average, made only 78 percent of what men earned.
Equal Pay Day illustrates this inequality by marking the point at which women’s earnings finally equal those of men’s from the previous year.
In 2015, Equal Pay Day will be held on April 14, indicating that it will have taken 3 months and 14 days for women’s wages to catch up to what men earned in 2014.

To call attention to the Gender Pay Gap, Lean In DC is encouraging local businesses to offer a 22% discount for women (and their advocates) on Equal Pay Day. This “Equal Pay Day Deal” will call attention to the fact that women make 78 cents to a man’s dollar and encourage the DC community to take action on pay inequity.
